Award Criteria
Youth
of the Year
This award recognizes
service by an individual/group of young people (through age 22) who
demonstrates outstanding commitment to the community through direct
financial support, development of charitable programs, volunteering
and leadership. Nominees will be evaluated using the following
criteria:
1. Description of what the nominee accomplished, such
as: goals; process; budget (if relevant); others involved in the
process (adult leaders or advisers); time, talent, treasure the
youth gave for the common good; and the results that were achieved.
2. Impact the nominee had on the community, including
number of people involved, organizations helped, etc. Could the
project be a prototype for others?
3. Description of participation in other community
projects and nonprofit organizations.
Volunteer
Fundraiser of the Year
This award honors
an individual or family that demonstrates outstanding skills in
coordinating and motivating groups of volunteers for fundraising
projects for the benefit of charitable institutions. The nominee
must have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in coordinating
groups of volunteers for major fundraising projects for more than
one nonprofit organization. Nominees will be evaluated using the
following criteria:
1. Evidence of quality of leadership and organizational
ability in fundraising campaigns.
2. Description of time, effort, and personal commitment
to philanthropy.
3. Evidence of recruiting and motivating others to be
committed to philanthropy.
4. Description of participation in other nonprofit
organizations.
Corporation of the Year
This award honors a
corporation or corporate foundation that
demonstrates outstanding commitment through financial support, and
through encouragement and motivation of others to take leadership
roles toward philanthropy and community involvement. Nominations
will be evaluated using the following criteria:
1. Evidence of philanthropic gift support and description of
its direct impact.
2. Description of participation and support to other nonprofit
organizations in the community.
3. Evidence of encouragement and motivation given to others to
take leadership roles in philanthropy.
Foundation of the Year
This award honors a
private or public foundation that demonstrates outstanding
commitment through financial support, and through encouragement and
motivation of others to take leadership roles toward philanthropy
and community involvement. Nominations will be evaluated using the
following criteria:
1. Evidence of philanthropic support and/or efforts to
solve societal/community problems.
2. Description of grant-making impact and achievements
accomplished through the foundation’s efforts.
3. Evidence of encouragement and motivation given to others to
take leadership roles toward philanthropy and community involvement.
Fundraising Professional of the Year
This award recognizes
an outstanding fundraising executive who practices the profession in
an exemplary way. He/she must spend a majority of time on
fundraising. Nominees will be evaluated using the following
criteria:
1. Description of career achievements, length and tenure of
fundraising background, and experience.
2. Evidence of experience, leadership, creativity and
involvement in the advancement of the fundraising profession.
3. Membership in professional organizations, commitment
to continuing professional development, and evidence that the
individual adheres to the AFP Code of Ethical Principles and
Standards of Professional Practice.
4. Evidence of commitment to fundraising and
philanthropy through participation in other community nonprofit
organizations.
Philanthropist of the Year
This award honors an
individual or family with a proven record of exceptional generosity
who, through direct financial support, demonstrates outstanding
civic and charitable responsibility, and whose generosity encourages
others to take philanthropic roles in the community. Nominees will
be evaluated using the following criteria:
1. Evidence of direct gift support and its impact on the
community.
2. Evidence of encouragement and motivation to others to
take leadership roles in philanthropy.
3. Description of participation in and financial support
to other nonprofit organizations.
4. Description of philanthropic support to innovative
approaches to problem solving.
